My Style, in 5 Key Items

If you had to boil down your style to 5 key items, what would they be?

Harper’s Bazaar asked Kate Moss this question, and I thought, what fun! We can learn a lot by the answer to this question, so why don’t you give it a try? My five:

My Style, in 5 Key Items

[worn to art galleries, on FabulosiTEA reunions, and to work.]

My Style, in 5 Key Items

[worn as a winter layer, in my backyard, and in so many YouTube videos.]

My Style, in 5 Key Items

[brand new!]

My Style, in 5 Key Items

[worn to take exams, attend the opera, and generally stomp about the UK.]

My Style, in 5 Key Items

[worn to tea, out to dinner, & when feeling silly

What are your 5 key items?

    Mine would be:
    1. Pale blue cashmere sweater
    2. Open front long gray cardigan- I usually wear it wrapped and tucked in like a drape front style top
    3. Black tank top- worn every day under other layers
    4. Flats in a fun color- currently purple (Outside of work or if I need to walk quite a bit I like Keen sandals)
    5. Navy blazer in a knit fabric.

I love the Anthro skirt! I think I would love to raid your closet :) I don’t know which 5 pieces in my closet would define my style….That’s tough! I feel like I’m not currently happy with anything in my closet. Probably not a good thing.

whaaat no way! Your style is so cool! I guess you could always have an *aspirational* 5 pieces. Scour the internet and go crazy ;)

I was just commenting on Debbie (Recovering Shopaholic)’s blog about essential basics and from that got a clearer picture of my essential wardrobe needs than I’ve had in a long time. That said, I think your five items illustrate exactly why a closet can’t survive on basics alone… (okay, it can, but it’s not as much fun).

    1. New Linen Horny Toad dress, because I love my body in it and it’s the perfect starting point for any type of outfit.
    2. New Birkenstocks, because they also go with everything and represent a move to take better care of my feet, which I need to get me from A to B.
    3. Anthropologie cross-back cream-and-navy sailor-stripe tee. Unexpected, simple, European, perfect.
    4. Anthropologie watercolor voile infinity scarf. Goes with everything and makes any outfit more interesting without being too loud.
    5. Vermilion “Ribbon” wool coat from J Crew. Classic, beautiful. But unexpected detail and color that shakes you right out of the bleakness of all-gray Midwestern winters.

    Cheers!

I am going to give this some thought, and I will either post here — or do a video response. I just started Project 333, so my wardrobe seems a bit boring to me, but I have wiggle room to add 7 pieces to hit 33. Maybe my 5 will be in those?
